The Modern Mod

I love this new AW trend! As I casually flicked through my copy of Topshop's 214 mag, I came across the page dedicated to skinny trousers, ties and dogtooth! Yes! Mod is Back!
As you guys know (because I always try and sneak it into every post!), I have grown up in a Mod household and even cut my hair like Mary Quant!
Although this new trend has a much more masculine edge, it is still full of the quirky, unique statement apparel that identifies a mod as a mod.

Growing up, I was introduced to bands like The Jam and The Who and instantly fell in love with their fashionable selves. My dad was in a band called the Peruvian Hipsters and he himself owned the classic mod accessory- the Scooter! I fell in love with the working class esque look and the simple yet sophisticated style.

Here is my dad in the 80s, during his band days:

I love his style.

In the 60s and 80s, female Mods were all about shift dresses and black and white however
nowadays, the female side of the 80s mod is much more masculine and this is clearly evident in Topshop's Latest "New Mod" Collection. It all consists of skinny silhouettes and flash backs of the first mod reign, the 50s.

If, like me, you are still in love with the classic gorgeous mod girl, then look further afield, as other high street faves are also snapping up this 50s/80s nostalgia. MissGuided.co.uk have focused their fashion attention on the delightful 60s shift dress which was the epitome of mod girl fashion.

As well as cute shift dresses, we also have some winter wools in that chic model style of block colours. I am in love with this beauty and may just have to nip out and buy it myself!
