It's September, my twitter feed is buzzing with invite pictures, what to wear worries and designer names to watch, which in this industry, can only mean one thing: It's London Fashion Week.
The amazing and inspiring time of year when all the City's best dressed fashionistas and fashionistos hit Somerset house in a sea of Baroque, leather and stripes. With ipads tucked neatly under arms, invites and iphones in hand and studded boots on foot, the fashion clan prepare for this season's hottest shows.
This season is the first season that I've missed since I started attending LFW and it's already slightly soul destroying (Yes, dramatic I know, blame the lack of designer in my blood).
Due to other commitments, I will be viewing this season's shows from the comfort of my own home, which in this case is not so comforting. I almost feel like I have committed a crime against not only fashion, but my career by missing the only time of the year (apart from Feb of course) where I can fully divulge myself into the breathtaking sites of LFW. Please forgive me.
I will however be writing about my fav shows, obviously, so keep an eye out for some trend reports and catwalk write ups.
What I love most about LFW is that it is the place that changed my view on fashion forever. Yes, in my late teens I did discover a love for clothes and shopping (like any girl my age) and I had been writing about trends before I first visited LFW, but it is here that I realised the true meaning of fashion (cliche, I hear you say). Yes, like the great Ugly Betty episode where Betty has to create and direct a whole show at NYFW, I discovered that these shows were not just an excuse to make endless fashion wishlists, they were a chance to see art actually come to life.
Sitting in the front row of a catwalk and watching the unbelievable models walking effortlessly in what can only be described as breathtaking visual designs honestly is a beautiful moment. For these clothes are innovative, creative and inspiring. The detail, the skill and the precision that goes into every single design leaves any spectator in awe. You literally realise at that one moment why Vogue is what it is and why these designers are the epitome of the word fashion.
Fashion is not just clothes, trends and styles. It's art, beauty and a walking installation that leaves all who entertain its idea in complete admiration.
Mia.
Couldn't agree more!! Perfectly put.
