In modern day films and TV, the red head is always depicted as sexy, sassy, bold and fierce. Think Rita Heyworth, Christina Hendricks and Debra Messing (couldn't resist a bit of Grace).
Singers like Cheryl Cole, Rihanna and Florence and the Machine have also all made their identities (at certain times) on the back of being a red head. Cheryl in particular use her red hair as a statement, showing the world that she was still that gorgeous and strong lady, despite what was happening in her private life.
So why did Welsh fashion designer Julien McDonald decide that Cheryl's deep red locks made her look like a chav? (which is quite ironic coming from a designer who called one of his labels "star")
Yes, of course red hair done badly can look slightly chavish, but so can platinum white but many celebrities and models still manage to pull it off. But for Cheryl Cole, who probably paid a lot of money to have her hair professionally dyed red, to be called a chav is a pure insult.
After the age of power red heads like Rupert Grint (Ron Weasly), Lily Cole and Ed Sheeran, being a red head is actually something to be proud of, with more and more celebs popping up with auburn locks every week.
So for me, personally, being a red head will always make me feel a millions times better than being a blonde or a brunette. I might not be able to wear pastels very well or pull of certain shades of burgundy (clash!) but I'll always be able to stand out from the crowd that little bit more.
Julien McDonald, you are wrong my friend.
