Even as I write this now, the words seem to escape me, stunting my sentences and creating awkward pauses and repeated deletes. Like some sort of whimsical demon, it haunts every article idea or project, not only making you doubt your own creativity but also stopping you from actually doing your job.
Many of you may know what I'm on about and, if writing is your profession like mine, more of you will understand how much of a nuisance it can be. Yes, I'm talking about Writer's Block.
For regular bloggers, it can be a challenge to come up with interesting and unique posts, especially during this current blogging industry which is now saturated with hundreds of amazing blogs. However for writers, the demon causes even more trouble as work dries up and you feel at a loss as other writers around you nab up the big titles.
So, after a little soul searching myself, I've come up with some ways in which we, as writers, can fend off the big baddy that is writer's block.
1: Keep a notebook
Every writer has one and, nowadays, most bloggers do as well. Something cute and small that will fit in your bag so you can write down any idea that pops into your head.
2: A mood board
I try and cut out some interesting articles/info that I find an stick in on my wardrobe. Sometimes, you can find different angles to the stories, plus, because you'll see it everyday, it can kick start your brain into thinking.
3: Bubble charts
Not just useful for revision! I keep little bubble charts in my notebook with different stems of information. From fashion article ideas to who I'd love to interview, the charts provide an easy way to let your mind naturally wander.
4: Ask friends what they'd like to read
This one can be quite useful as it gives you the readers perspective. As journalists or writers, we are constantly viewing things as "articles" however ideas to readers are just interests. Sometimes, you can come across some little gems...
5: Take inspiration from your life situation
An example is this article! I'm facing a little writer's block so what do I do? Write an article on writers block!
How do you get inspiration and new ideas?
