Nostalgia

My mother and father grew up in a time when culture defined your identity. By that I mean you belonged to a particular group or scene which decided everything from your sense of style to your view of life. Yes, we had 90s kids and the emo rage of the early 00s, but can we honestly say that we were part of a time when girls and boys both put every effort into defining their identity, and not just following what everyone else was wearing (yes, I know obviously this was happening then but I mean in a sense of when one person wears the Topshop "Geek" top with high waisted shorts and now every teenage girl thinks this is the ultimate outfit...)

I'm sure many people would love to have a debate with me about this. I don't just mean that we don't have certain trends, of course we do, but I mean we never become a trend- if that makes sense. 

During the 80s, you had the mod revival, the rockers, the punks... which were not only trends but lifestyles. My father was a member of a band called the Peruvian Hipsters in the 80s and always shares his stories of how they used to play around the South Wales Valleys, fitting the whole band and my mother and her friends into a van, along with all the band gear. 

He talked about how they were the  only other band, apart from the Sex Pistols, who were banned from a pub in Caerphilly. How they appeared on the 80s BBC music programme "Juice" and how they headlined a local festival, whereby half way through, kids climbed under the stage and unplugged the power... 

Before he joined the band, he was a young mod. Yes, he owned a fishtail parker and a scooter with a huge number of mirrors. He wore skinny trousers and winklepickers. He basically dressed how I dress now... 

I can even remember one time when I bought black and white pinstripe skinny jeans and my father asked where he could get some... 

I wish we had this nowadays. Yes, we have our own generation of fashion and trends which I regularly fall in love with but we haven't got groups of people who are into certain fashion lifestyles anymore, apart from the excessive gothic culture or emo. 


Why can't we have the mods? I could totally pull that off...

Meet: Jake Bugg

Meet Jake Bugg. I'm pretty sure most have you have already heard his addictive "Two Fingers" but I thought I'd share it none-the-less. Yes, he's a little bit Miles Kane- a little bit modern Dylan, but he's still pretty incredible. The boy is just 18 and has an amazing talent which has already seen him support Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds. His self titled new album was out on October 15 and has made it directly on to my Christmas Wishlist.

Not to forget about the fashion, this kid has some true mod style. His clear Oasis/Arctic Monkeys inspired fashion sense means he's a fan of the classic Fred Perry jackets and fitted shirts. And of course, he's been pictured with the iconic Oasis parker as well. 

As much as I love this guy, I hope he manages to pave his own way in regards to his fashion sense; revamp the classics a bit.

Judy's Affordable Vintage Fair

Autumn in Cardiff has to be the best time for Vintage Fairs. Freshers and students have moved back in, the weather is turning and you are in need of a new comfy cardigan so you do what most people in Cathays are doing and head to the nearest Vintage Fair.
Last week in Cardiff we were treated to one of the UK's biggest Vintage Fairs, Judy's Affordable Vintage Fair. As allows, it drew in crowds of young and old vintage and retro lovers all looking for that special unique find. What was so refreshing about this weeks fair was the clear examples of younger teenagers embracing yesteryear. From children with their parents, to groups of teenage girls, it seems people of all ages are now loving the vintage vibe!
As well as the variety in people at the fair, there was also, as always, a HUGE variety of clothes from every decade. With 4 aisles of stalls all displaying rails and rails of dresses, bags and scarves, it took at least 2 hours to fully take in the magical scene. As always, my favourite Vintage duo Rose Tinted were present and looking delightful! Their very affordable clothing drew in queues of bargain hunting vintage lovers and I'm sure many of them left with a special Rose Tinted item! I always go straight to Rose Tinted because their items are not only in amazing quality but they are also incredibly well priced.  They also stock the cutest tops and bags which are always sought after!
As well as my all time faves, I also came across some other great names such as Penny Lane and Diamond in the Sky Jewels. 
Now, as many girls know, vintage shopping is incredibly tiring and so of course, I had to treat myself to the amazing tea and cupcakes on offer. I mean, just look at the gorgeous pictures and I'm sure you would have done the same!
I also managed to find some very fashionable Vintage Shoppers amongst the crowds of hunters. Let it never be said that a vintage lover doesn't know how to dress! Some of the girls and guys looked amazing and effortlessly beautiful. Another reason to love Vintage!
