From red to...

Very bright hair at the Company Magazine Blog Awards 2013

There comes a time in every red head's life when they question how long they can maintain their fiery locks, and, after 5 years of being a fake red, that time has come.

From the very first time that I dyed my (then) dark brown hair red, I knew it wouldn't be forever, yet here I am nearly 6 years after (yes, I know that's hardly forever), questioning whether I can still pull off the red look.

I adore my hair and to be quite honest because my natural hair is quite fair (ash brown) it doesn't take a lot of dying or hair work to keep it bright. However, now that I'm on my way into my 20s, I'm starting to wonder when the right time would be to go for something a little more easy on the eye and natural.

You're always told that there is no place in society for bright red dyed hair. Dramatic? maybe, but think about it. When you're in school, you are told that dyed red hair is unnatural and inappropriate. Then as you go closer to Uni, you're told that maybe red isn't professional enough to be taken seriously in a working environment. I don't personally believe that your hair should determine this but that's what is drilled into you.

I've never really paid much attention to this kind of pressure until now, where I can think about is what I'm going to look like at 30, 40 etc... with fake red hair.

Oh, When I talk about red hair in these circumstances, I obviously mean dyed red hair and not beautiful natural red locks!
So, what are my options?

Well, as I said before, my natural colour is a fair brown, however, I'm not a fan of it (my little brother calls it grey, much to his amusement).

For ages now I've been very tempted to strip it all back and gently highlight my ash locks but in all honestly, I'm more scared to go back to a natural hair colour than I was going red?

A little darker than my natural colour

Can any of you guys help me decide?

Company Magazine #stylebloggerawards 2013

What do you get when you put a load of super stylish bloggers, a DJ that plays the most amazing tunes, a group of highly talented and award winning writers who make up the team of the UK's most innovative and unique fashion mag all in one super cool, almost secretive, bar in Shoreditch? One of the most amazing parties you'll ever see, that's what!

Unless you've somehow managed to miss my constant twitter, facebook and instagram pics of the night, then you'll instantly know that I'm on about the Company Magazine #stylebloggerawards 2013, which was in association with New Look.

This little blog had been shortlisted in the "Best Fashion Blog" category and although I never thought we'd win, just being in the same category as the other hugely talented and creative bloggers was honestly such an achievement. I wanted to say a huge thank you to all of you who took the time to vote for By Mimi - it really did mean a lot to me.

The event itself was honestly one of the most amazing bloggers event that I've ever been to. Not only was it practically like an aspiring writer's heaven, being surrounded by the whole team of one of the most amazing and diverse magazines to come out of London, but it was also such an incredible feeling being invited to an event with so many motivated, determined and ambitious young women.

The event itself was situated just off Brick Lane in Shoreditch, which we all know is super stylish and cool. We were given free champers on arrival, as well as being treated to a number of blogger inspired cocktails! In true blogger style, there was a make up area where you could have your make up done, a hair styling area where bloggers could transform their locks, a craft area hosted by Pinterest's Pinned it! Made it! team,  where you could create your own sunglasses and also an amazing photobooth which was obviously hugely popular amongst us bloggers ;)

As the event was in association with New Look, there was also an area where you could browse some of their latest pieces and jewellery!

The awards were read out by the gorgeous Victoria White, who as you all know is the editor of Company Magazine, and Theresa Caney who is the beautiful web editor.

Obviously, being the aspiring writer that I am, I nabbed a quick few mins to have a chat with Victoria, who I had interviewed previously for this blog. She was SO lovely and really did take the time to answer my questions, which obviously made me respect her even more than I already did.

The bloggers who won all the awards all REALLY deserved them. They were all so grateful and seeing their smiles made the night extra amazing. We all spend so much time putting effort and hard work into our blogs that when we get recognised for it, it really does mean so much. HUGE congratulations to everyone who won and obviously every who was shortlisted.

Anyway, I'll let you have a little browse of those photos. Thank you Company Mag for putting on such a fantastic event! Same time next year, yes? ;)

Company Style Blogger Awards: Shortlisted!

Thank you!

I can't quite believe I'm saying this but somehow this blog has been shortlisted as "Best Fashion Blog"  in the Company Magazine Style Blogger Awards in association with New Look!

I'm so grateful for everyone who nominated my blog to get this far so if you took the time to vote then thank you so much. I started this blog in 2011 so that I could write about the things that inspired me, from fashion news and trends to interviews with industry experts.

In the last few years, I've covered London Fashion Week, been a festival fashion spotter for Oxfam, been invited to numerous events such as the launch party of the new Vivienne Westwood store in Cardiff and more recently the blogger forum event at the incredible new salon/spa - Belle Toujours - in Cardiff, as well as being lucky enough to interview some incredible names in fashion from none other than the editor of Company Magazine herself, Victoria White to model Charlotte De Carle and designers Coco Fennell and Emesha London.

It would mean so much to me if you voted for my blog to win the "Best Fashion Blog" category because it means all of my hard work gets recognised.

I want to be a magazine journalist so I put everything into "By Mimi" so this really does mean a lot! Thank you so much.

You can vote for miaholt.blogspot.co.uk as "Best Fasion Blog" here if you think I deserve it :)
